Here I go again! Off to Brussels :)

NEDERLANDS
Morgen ga ik voor de zoveelste keer naar het buitenland! Ik kan er blijkbaar niet genoeg van krijgen. Dit keer ga ik eens wat dichterbij huis, namelijk naar Brussel in ons buurland België! Ik zal hier mijn afstudeerstage doen. Voor 6 maanden maar liefst! Tomorrow I will go again go abroad! Apparently I can’t get enough of it. This time I’ll go to a place which is a little closer to my home, namely to Brussels in Belgium. Here I will do my graduation traineeship for 6 months!
I will do my graduation traineeship and thesis at Neth-ER. Neth-ER means the Dutch House of Education and Research. It is the representation of the Dutch knowledge field in Brussels. Its goal is to influence the policy making process in Europe while using that knowledge field and to see how the Netherlands can profit as much as possible of Europe. The associations consists of multiple Dutch organizations in the field of education, research and innovation. For further information you could check the following website: http://www.neth-er.eu/nl.
Ik zal mijn afstudeerstage en scriptie doen bij Neth-ER. Neth-ER betekent “Dutch House of Education and Research”, oftewel het Nederlandse huis voor onderwijs en onderzoek. Het is de vertegenwoordiging voor het Nederlandse kennisveld in Brussel. Het heeft als doel het beleidsvormingsproces in Europa met behulp van dit kennisveld te beïnvloeden en zoveel mogelijk gebruik te maken van wat Europa aan Nederland te bieden heeft. De vereniging bestaat uit meerdere Nederlandse organisaties op het gebied onderwijs, onderzoek en innovatie. In Brussel ga ik, zoals de Vlamingen het zo leuk zeggen, op ‘kot’. Dit betekent op kamers gaan. Begin januari ben ik een nachtje met mijn vader naar Brussel afgereisd om een kamer te zoeken. De zoektocht is gelukt en heb ik een leuk studentenhuis gevonden met ongeveer 20 studenten. Ik zit op de bovenste verdieping, dus dat wordt veel trappen op en af lopen de komende tijd. Enige minpuntje is dat het kot geen wasmachine heeft, maar gelukkig zit er op nog geen 5 meter vanaf de voordeur een wasserette. Het kot zit vrij centraal en het centrum is nog niet eens 10 minuten lopen. Stage is ongeveer 30 minuten lopen, dus een prima locatie. Ik ben wel van plan een fiets te kopen. Maar het wordt een uitdaging om iedere dag te fietsen naar stage, omdat ik een flinke heuvel op moet ’s ochtends. Dat ben ik in Nederland niet gewend.
Met dit reisverslag hoop ik jullie wat op de hoogte te houden over mijn verblijf in Brussel. Het fijne aan Brussel is dat ik gemakkelijk een weekendje naar huis kan, dus ik zal jullie misschien af en toe wel eens voorbij komen. Tot snel!

In the beginning of January I went to Brussels with my dad for one night. The room hunt succeeded and I’ve found a nice house with around 20 students. I’ll be living on the top floor, so I have to walk a lot of stairs every day. Unfortunately the house doesn’t have any laundry machine, but luckily right around the corner is a self-service laundry. The house is quite central. The city center is just 10 minutes by foot and my traineeship 30 minutes by foot. I’m planning to get a bike, but it will be a challenge to bike up a hill every day since I’m not used to that in the Netherlands.
With this travel blog I hope to keep you up-to-date about my stay in Brussels. The nice thing about Brussels is that it is not that far away from home, so I can go home for the weekend very easily. If you happen to go to Brussels one day, let me know. Maybe see you soon!
